Meet The Producers

The Nguguini factory is situated in Kirinyaga County. This factory (washing station) has 1,200 active members, while the whole society, a collection of 9 washing stations, has over 7,200 smallholder farmers. This makes it the second-largest cooperative in Kirinyaga County.

Harvesting & Processing

Cherries are hand sorted for unripe and overripe by the farmers before delivery. A disc pulping machine removes the skin and pulp and the coffees are graded by
density with low-density and defective beans separated out from the high-quality coffee. The coffee is fermented for 16-24 hours under closed shade. After fermentation, the coffees are washed and again graded by density in washing channels. Then, they are soaked under clean water for 16-18 hours. Drying takes about 21 days on African drying beds. Coffees are covered in plastic during midday and at night.

Samples are sent to the lab in Nairobi for assessment and then on to us, allowing us to choose our favourite lot.
