Coffee Grinder FAQs

What are the benefits of owning a good quality coffee grinder?

A high-quality coffee grinder ensures a consistent grind size, which is essential for optimal coffee extraction. This helps you to achieve better-tasting coffee with more complex flavours and aromas. By grinding your beans fresh, you’ll enjoy coffee that’s richer and more vibrant.

Is a burr grinder better than a blade grinder?

Yes, burr grinders are far superior to blade grinders. Burr grinders provide a uniform grind size, which is crucial for consistent coffee extraction and flavour. Blade grinders, on the other hand, often produce uneven grounds, leading to a less balanced cup of coffee. We choose to only offer burr grinders to ensure you get the most out of your beans.

What grind size should I use for my brewing method?

The ideal grind size depends on your preferences, but generally we recommend:

Espresso: Fine grind

Pour-over: Medium-fine grind

French press: Coarse grind

Aeropress: Medium to fine grind

Most grinders are very easy to adjust the settings to match your preferred method–however some grinders are more suited to certain brew methods than others.

Are all coffee grinders suitable for all brew methods?

Not all coffee grinders are suitable for every brew method. The key factor is whether the grinder can produce a consistent grind size for your preferred brewing style. For example, espresso requires a fine, precise grind, which is best achieved with a high-quality burr grinder. When selecting a coffee grinder, ensure it has adjustable settings to accommodate the grind size required for your chosen brew methods.

Do manual grinders work as well as electric grinders?

Manual grinders are an excellent choice for those who value portability and control. While they require more effort, they often deliver the same level of precision as electric burr grinders. They’re ideal for travel or small brewing setups, but for high-volume brewing or espresso, an electric grinder will be more efficient.
